The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is the collector of the data (compiler), the creator and maintainer of the data layer (editor), and producer (publisher) of this information for use. Data compiled at 1:24,000 scale.

This layer includes information that is applicable to a set time period (2010) and is not updated or changed in any way.
Description
A characterization of the data, including its intended use and limitations.
Abstract:
Connecticut 305b Assessed Lake 2010 is a 1:24,000-scale, polygon feature-based layer that includes lakes that have been assessed in compliance with Sections 305(b) and 303(d) of the federal Clean Water Act. Section 305(b) of the Clean Water Act requires each state to monitor, assess and report on the quality of its waters relative to attainment of designated uses established by the State's water quality standards. Section 303(d) requires each State to compile a subset of that list identifying only those waters not meeting water quality standards and assign a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) priority ranking to each impaired waterbody.

This layer is based on information collected and compiled prior to 2010. It represents conditions at a particular point in time and does not represent current conditions. This layer includes only assessed lakes. It can be used with the 2010 Connecticut 305b Assessed River layer and the Connecticut 305b Assessed Estuary layer to geographically display attainment and non-attainment for each designated use on assessed waters within Connecticut's boundaries.

Features are polygon locations that represent the locations of assessed lakes. The sources for these features include the hydrography layer and the water quality classification layer. Attribute information is comprised of the Connecticut lake identification number, a unique identifier for each feature, the name of the waterbody, its location, the assessment cycle (year), the water type, the water quality class goal, the length of the feature in miles, the National Hydrography Dataset basin number, and the assessment for the following categories: aquatic life, recreation, fish consumption, and drinking water supply. Data is compiled at 1:24,000 scale. This dataset is not updated.

Purpose:
Connecticut 305(b) Assessed Lake 2010 is 1:24,000-scale data. It depicts assessed lakes throughout the state. Use this layer to show the locations of lakes and their accompanying use assessment . This layer should be used with the other assessed waterbody layers: Assessed Estuary and Assessed River. To gain a historical perspective, use this layer with the 2006 and 2008 Assessed Waters layers.

This layer should only be viewed with other 1:24,000-scale map data such as water quality classifications, roads, towns, topographic quadrangles, and digital orthophotos. Not intended for maps printed at map scales greater or more detailed than 1:24,000 scale (1 inch = 2,000 feet.)

+ Data Structure and Attribute Information
Overview
Summary of the information content of the data, including other references to complete descriptions of entity types, attributes, and attribute values for the data.
Entity and attribute overview:
Includes assessed river features to include the Connecticut lake identification number, area in acres, the reporting year (assessment year), unique 305b identification number, name and location of feature, water quality class goal, type of waterbody, NHD basin, and categories assessed: aquatic life viability, recreation, fish consumption, and drinking water supply. Use the ID305B field to uniquely identify features. The Name attribute decodes ID305B. Use either the Name attribute or the ID305B attribute to label features on a map. To define a layer that only includes a certain assessment of a feature type, query the features for a specific attribute (e.g. Recreation) equal to a specific value (e.g. Not Supporting). This will display only those features where the Recreation use is Not Supporting.

Description: This metadata is displayed using the FGDC Plus Stylesheet, which is an XSL template that can be used with ArcGIS software to display metadata. It displays metadata elements defined in the Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM) - aka FGDC Standard, the ESRI Profile of CSDGM, the Biological Data Profile of CSDGM, and the Shoreline Data Profile of CSDGM. CSDGM is the US Federal Metadata standard. The Federal Geographic Data Committee originally adopted the CSDGM in 1994 and revised it in 1998. According to Executive Order 12096 all Federal agencies are ordered to use this standard to document geospatial data created as of January, 1995. The standard is often referred to as the FGDC Metadata Standard and has been implemented beyond the federal level with State and local governments adopting the metadata standard as well. The Biological Data Profile broadens the application of the CSDGM so that it is more easily applied to biological data that are not explicitly geographic (laboratory results, field notes, specimen collections, research reports) but can be associated with a geographic location. Includes taxonomical vocabulary. The Shoreline Data Profile addresses variability in the definition and mapping of shorelines by providing a standardized set of terms and data elements required to support metadata for shoreline and coastal data sets. The FGDC Plus Stylesheet includes the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set. It supports W3C DOM compatible browsers such as IE7, IE6, Netscape 7, and Mozilla Firefox. It is in the public domain and may be freely used, modified, and redistributed. It is provided "AS-IS" without warranty or technical support.
