About CT ECO
Connecticut Environmental Conditions Online (CT ECO) is the collaborative work of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the University of Connecticut Center for Land Use Education and Research (CLEAR) to share environmental and natural resource information with the general public. CT ECO's mission is to encourage, support, and promote informed land use and development decisions in Connecticut by providing local, state and federal agencies, and the general public with convenient access to the most up-to-date and complete natural resource information available statewide.
CT ECO includes a variety of online maps and tools for viewing Connecticut’s environmental and natural resources such as protected open space, farmland soils, wetland soils, aquifer protection areas, water quality classifications, and drainage basins. Each can be viewed separately or in conjunction with other environmental and natural resource information. In addition, CT ECO includes several sets of high resolution orthophotography, the most recent from 2010.
CT ECO Includes
- A Map Catalog that provides individual town maps in “portable document file” (PDF) format for resources including soils, wetland soils, protected open space, aquifer protection areas and more. These map files are easy to use and can be downloaded and printed from a user’s printer or plotter.
- An easy-to-use Simple Map Viewer that allows a user to view map themes including soils, wetland soils, protected open space, and aquifer protection areas overlaid on various dates of aerial photography.
- An Advanced Map Viewer with additional GIS data and tools. Unlike the Simple Map Viewer, the advanced viewer allows a user to display and interact with multiple data at once to address more complex decisions.
- Map Services that allow users of desktop geographic information system (GIS) software to connect directly to the environmental and natural resource map data from CT ECO. This allows a user to overlay CT ECO data with their own geospatial data inside a desktop GIS.
- Data Guides and Resource Guides, which are online, reference documents that provide comprehensive explanations of the environmental and natural resource information included in CT ECO.
